About Doctor Ganthier

Dr. Ganthier grew up in Ohio. He attended John Carroll University (Cleveland) for his undergraduate studies and attended medical school at The Medical University of Ohio. He completed an internship at The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at The King/Drew Medical Center, affiliated with U.C.L.A., in Los Angeles. He subsequently returned to The Henry Ford Hospital where he completed a Fellowship in medical and. surgical management of diseases of the vitreous and retina. Throughout his training, he has participated in basic science and clinical research which has resulted in numerous national conference presentations and published articles in peer reviewed ophthalmic literature. Dr. Ganthier is especially fortunate to have trained at Henry Ford, an institution that was one of the national testing centers in the authoritative diabetes study, The Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT). Dr. Ganthier was also appointed by the American Diabetes Association, Los Angeles chapter, as the official ophthalmology consultant. Dr. Ganthier was the first resident retinal specialist of Highlands County. He is also the first to perform pars plana vitrectomy surgery (retina surgery) and retinal laser surgery in Highlands County. Amongst ophthalmologist Dr. Ganthier has supreme expertise and experience in taking care of patients with suspicious and/ or biopsy proven eyelid cancers, as well as other eyelid surgeries including blepharoplasty. 

Dr. Ganthier's expertise in his subspecialty of vitreo-retinal disorders, and in particular diabetic retinopathy, was recognized by Governor Jeb Bush. On January 31,2004 Dr. Ganthier was selected amongst 47,000 Florida licensed physicians and appointed by Governor Bush to The Diabetes Advisory Council (DAC) which is responsible for advising the Governor's office on all matters related to diabetes mellitus. These matters include issues relating to determining the standard of care, education of his peers, etc. This particular professional milestone is an especially prized achievement for Dr. Ganthier. He is pleased to be able to extend to his patients this level of specialty care and knowledge.
 

Dr. Ganthier is a nationally recognized speaker on the topic of diabetic retinopathy.
  He has also been invited by a leading national research and development company involved in the treatment of wet macular degeneration to lecture on age related macular degeneration as well.
 

Dr. Ganthier is twice Board Certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of The American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a fellow of several national ophthalmology organizations, as well as The American College of Surgeons and The American Society of Retina Specialists. He is on staff at Highlands Regional Medical Center and Florida Hospital.
